Some people probably think that I must be making this up or something. Here is what I believe happens...People talk to each other about how much money they have made selling purses on eBay or hear about a friend of a friend who sold their designer purse for some outrageous amount of money on eBay. Newby listers type in a name like "Coach purses" or "Burberry handbags" and see some really big numbers listed. Thinking that they might be able to cash in, they list a purse they own that is still in great shape and figure they'll start it at a very low price because the bidding will drive the selling price of the designer purse way up. It also costs them less initially (their insertion fee) to set a low price for their designer purse on eBay. Here is where they run into problems. You see, the market for selling purses and handbags on eBay is very competitive. That is good news for buyers. If the price is too high compared to other purses, buyers just move on. Sure, there are some authentic designer handbags that are going to get bid way up, but for every one of those, there are several discount designer handbags that don't end up making very much money. Those are the purses and handbags you want to keep an eye on. There is still enough of a selection that you can pretty much pick out what you want in many instances. If you check out any sellers who sell high end designer purses full time, you'll notice that many don't start their prices set too low because they realize they could take a beating if their cheap purses don't catch a few eyes right away. The exceptions are people who have an established customer base or have such a strong presence as a seller that they know their products will be seen and the prices driven up. I hope these posts help some people find great deals and convince some people that there really are some seriously cheap purses available right now. You know what they say about truth being stranger than fiction. I guess if there is a dollar to be made, someone is going to give it a shot. Actually, this is a lot less strange than some of the things you see selling on eBay. Given the historic significance of President Obama bucking the odds and getting elected, I suppose people designing purses with his likeness emblazoned on them aren't doing anything too outrageous.
Honestly, you just never can predict what will happen in fashion. Sometimes I get pretty deep into strange searches on eBay while I'm looking for deals. Today I noticed that there were multiple listings of Obama bags and Obama purses popping up all around me! I don't know how long they will stay popular but there
were quite a few listed with relatively low "buy it now" options. I'm not sure if that means that sellers want to move them before the excitement of the inauguration dies down or not.
