If you've got a dog that you just can't get enough of, this is your lucky day. You've probably seen it on TV, but now it could be coming to your hometown!

In case you haven't noticed, there is a fashion trend going on that might turn a few heads.  I'm talking about the popularity of dog purses.  Sure, there are purses with dogs on them.  They're cute and all, but that isn't what I'm talking about.  Dog purses are actually purses for carrying around your precious little pooch.  The rich and famous have actually been doing this for years, but it seems to have caught on recently among us "common folk" as well.  In fact, it has caught on enough that cheap dog purses are now becoming available due to there being a little bit of competition.  Don't worry, if you want to spend a fortune on a designer dog purse, I'm sure that the opportunity will always exist.

Honestly, I've got a Labrador retriever, so the idea never crossed my mind, but the image it conjures up is pretty amusing.  Obviously, these purses are pretty much designed for small breeds probably in the "toy dogs" category.  There are not a lot of trend setting people in the neighborhood where I live, so I have yet to see a dog in a purse except for on television.  I do have a friend with a couple of tiny toy poodles though, and I'm thinking that a dog purse might be a fun gift for her on her next birthday.  Other teacup size dogs that are popular as "accessories" are Yorkshire Terriers and Chihuahuas, but after doing a little research I found that you can find just about any tiny breed being hauled about in dog carrier purses.

Now it should  be remembered that purses with dogs in them might end up getting a bit um, "wet" if your pup has bladder issues.  Small dogs equal small bladders, so you'll want to give your purse dog plenty of opportunities to relieve itself if you take this route to purse fashion.  Before buying any dog carrying purses, it might be wise to ask the seller about the "cleanability" of the bag.  You probably should also avoid carrying around any dogs that have bladder issues.  This might include puppies in the midst of being trained to do their business outside or older dogs who might be losing a bit of control as they age.  No matter how much you love your dog, you probably don't want them to pee on you or your stuff.

For those who are a little bit less adventurous, you could simply stick with purses that are made in the shape of your favorite tiny dog.  Those are pretty cool too and they don't tinkle.  Seriously, if you do decide to get yourself a dog purse, please be sure that you remember the comfort and safety of your pet first.  Let them enjoy the honor of being a purse dog.
